October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Does your workplace have a Breast Cancer Awareness program in place? Whether you do or you don't, the time to begin preparing your breast cancer awareness initiatives is now! Still not convinced why it's important for your workplace? Keep reading to find out why and how you can support this philanthropy effort at work:

> Breast Cancer is the most common form of cancer among women, no matter the race or ethnicity.

## Why it's important to bring awareness to your workplace

Businesses and their employees have a number of opportunities to raise awareness for this disease, which is the most common form of cancer among women, no matter the race or ethnicity. Awareness helps your workplace understand the importance of prevention and early detection of the disease. A breast cancer awareness program shows support for those affected by breast cancer in their lives.

## How to get started

Like any other company-wide initiative, getting a team to get the program in motion is key for success. Begin with your Human Resources department to spearhead the first steps and to make sure any necessary steps are completed before you seek out volunteers. Once that's established, begin to outsource tasks to people who you believe are interested. Remember, the more the merrier with rolling out a workplace program! Receiving support and commitment from your coworkers early will help this program be successful at your workplace.

## Awareness for all

Once your team is established, it's time to start figuring out how to bring awareness of the disease to all of your company and the surrounding community. Awareness can come in many forms and be as creative as your team is capable of doing.

Awareness starts with a goal: Does your workplace want to make a donation to philanthropy? Does your workplace just want to share facts about prevention? Talk amongst your team what is feasible for your workplace. Once the goal is established, you can start building how to get your workplace involved. Below are a few ideas on how to bring awareness:

- Distribute [promotional giveaways](https://www.warehousedirect.com/subpages/flyers/BreastCancer2019.pdf) to employees to drive awareness
- Connect with a local non-profit or medical center to raise funds for research, treatment, and awareness
- Participate in a local walk with a team fielded by your business
- Promote awareness with pink products and donate a portion of the proceeds to a worthy cause
- Increase awareness in your employee and/or customer newsletter
